About Seoul : A city full of traditional and modern charms

The 4 representative districts of Seoul

Seoul is the capital of Korea and is now a beautiful city known to many people all over the world.

One of the most representative attractions of Seoul is that the past, present, and future coexist in a single city. Along with the old palaces where traditions live 600 years ago, there are places full of K content and culture that lead to the latest trends, and the latest technologies that leap forward are hidden throughout the city.

Furthermore, if you travel to Seoul, you will probably not feel uncomfortable using English. Most people can speak more than basic English and are very friendly to foreign tourists, so it will make your trip a more enjoyable memory.

Seoul uses the Korean won, the currency of the Republic of Korea, and the price level is higher than average in Asia, but it is average compared to major developed countries. Therefore, when you travel to Seoul, you won’t be stressed out about your travel expenses.

Lastly, Seoul is a city where transportation is very developed. With more than 10 subway lines and countless bus lines, there are few places where public transportation is not connected to every corner of the city. In addition, each transportation can be conveniently transferred, making your trip easier.

If this is your first visit to Seoul, we recommend that you plan your trip by dividing the city of Seoul into four main areas. Seoul is divided into east, west, north, and south based on the Han River that crosses the middle of the city. Each area has major destinations representing the area, so it would be good to plan according to your travel purpose and schedule.

    Center and north area

    coexistence of tradition and modernity

The central and northern areas of Seoul are areas where you can see the Joseon Dynasty from 600 years ago. Along with the old palaces that have been maintained for hundreds of years, the tall buildings that show Seoul’s aspect as a city center combine to show a different charm.

The representative travel destination of this area is the palace area centered on Gyeongbokgung Palace, the place where the king of Joseon stayed in the past. Also, a museum where you can see the history and relics of Korea is located in this country.

When you return to the present after a trip to the past, I recommend Namsan Tower where you can see the beautiful Seoul at a glance. You can see beautiful scenery regardless of night or day.

If you want to feel the vitality of Seoul a little more, please travel to Myeongdong, Seoul’s representative central commercial district. Itaewon, where you can gather cultures not only in Korea but also around the world along with various foods, is one of the good places to travel.

The western part of Seoul is very young and energetic. Various universities are located adjacent to each other, so the commercial district for college students is very well formed. Of course, it is one of the first places to meet the latest trends.

The representative center of the western region is an area called ‘Hongdae’. It also refers to the commercial district near where Hongik University is located. It is a place where young people’s favorite culture such as fashion and music has developed since the past, and various busking performances and club culture are still maintained.

The next area to introduce is Yeouido. If you’ve seen the squid game introduced earlier, you’ve probably heard of this area. Yeouido, which has been famous as Korea’s leading financial center since the past, has been reborn as a new center in the western region as the number of commercial districts targeting the younger generation has increased significantly in recent years.

    South area

the most famous and latest of Seoul

The southern section of Seoul is probably so famous that it doesn’t need an explanation. It is an area where you can see the latest images of Korea, centering on Gangnam, which was shouted by the world in the past.

The Gangnam area is perfect for visiting not only for various technologies and cultures but also for medical and shopping purposes. In fact, many tourists are visiting the Gangnam area for their own purposes.

If you are visiting Gangnam for shopping or medical tourism, I recommend you to go sightseeing around Apgujeong.

There is also a place that has emerged as a representative center in the south of Seoul. It is the Jamsil area, where the tallest building in Korea is located, and it is a beautiful center with large department stores, shopping malls, amusement parks, and lakes around the landmark building.

In the eastern part of Seoul, there is an area that has developed very much in recent years. It’s an area called Seongsu-dong.

In the past, it used to be an area where shoe factories and leather processing factories were gathered, but recently, various brands have been scrambling to show the latest trends. In fact, famous luxury brands are introducing their pop-up stores in Seongsu-dong.

Also, Seoul Forest is located not far from Seongsu-dong. It’s a space where you can stay in the vast nature in the city center. If you want to feel nature for a while while traveling in the city, it would be good to stop by Seoul Forest and take a walk for a while.

Dongdaemun is the last recommended area in the east of Seoul. The name of the area means the gate in the east of Seoul. In Dongdaemun, DDP, an exhibition and cultural space representing Seoul, is located, and if you walk a little bit to the old city center, you can see various traditional markets.
